Soomin Kim has recently completed her Classical Performance study at the University of Auckland as part of her conjoint degree with a Bachelor of Commerce. Born in Korea, she began learning the piano at the age of six and attended Yewon School in Year 8. After a two-year break from the instrument, she moved to New Zealand in 2013 and resumed her piano study – first with Denise Hull in Tauranga, and then with Stephen De Pledge at the University. Her achievements include being selected as a Haydn Staples Piano Scholar in 2019 and 2020, which involved two concerto performances with Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, lessons and coaching with Bryan Sayer and Sarah Watkins, and masterclasses with Louis Schwizgebel, Olli Mustonen and Somi Kim; IRMT Margaret Doone Sonata Scholarship 2018; Piano Tr
