OWEN WINGRAVE —Benjamin Britten Pacifism – trigger of a family tragedy

Johan Hyunbong Choi sang the title role with a lithe baritone, impressive from start to finish as he breaks away from his family in his grand monologue and finally agrees to spend the night in the haunted room out of love for Kate . Wioletta Hebrowska sings Kate with a dramatic mezzo-soprano and her resolute playing leaves no doubt as to who will be in charge in a possible marriage to her. Her mother, the ambitious officer's widow Mrs. Julian, was in good hands with Andrea Stadel with her bell-like soprano. Yoonki Baek as his rather flippant friend Lechmere, who improves his chancesKate sees, after breaking away from Owen , that she presents his lyrical tenor, confident in the high register, while Sabina Martin , as the traditional, elegantly dressed Miss Wingrave, Owen 's energetic aunt, knew how to resolutely use her dramatic soprano. Gerard Quinn as the trainer Spencer Coyle with the noble character baritone and the beautiful-voiced soprano Evmorfia Metaxaki as Mrs. Coyle were the compensating, balancing poles of this production. Finally, the character tenor Wolfgang Schwanninger offeredas the aged, still war-obsessed head of the family, General Sir Philip Wingrave in his dress uniform, an intense study of stern, merciless authority.
