Doris Soffel

Doris Soffel is one of the greatest mezzos of our time. She was not only a passionate Carmen and an elegant Octavian, but also the only German mezzo to make an International career as bel canto singer. In 90ies more dramatic roles like Amneris, Eboli and Klytämnestra (in Salzburg with Maazel). Soffel´s Ortrud with Luisi and Kundry in Berlin with Thielemann brought her to the front ranks of Wagner singers. Her stunning Frickas in the Cologne Carsen-Ring with Tate, in Amsterdam with Haenchen and at La Scala, Milan, with Barenboim (2010), confirmed her earlier success with this part under Solti in Bayreuth. From 2005 on she continued establishing her career as Wagner and R.Strauss-singer with Kundry, Fricka and Brangäne in Venice and Amme (Frau ohne Schatten) in Los Angeles, Dresden, Toulous
