Commissioned to Bellini by the Teatro La Fenice and composed in a very short time for the Carnival of 1830, it was a real triumph. Cut and tampered with during the numerous nineteenth-century shootings, the original score returned to be performed only in 1935, for the celebrations of bellini's centenary in Catania, before definitively returning to the repertoire starting from the late fifties, benefiting from the so-called Belcanto-Renaissance and the participation of authoritative interpreters of the role en travesti.
