Anton Bruckners Sinfonien zählen heute unbestritten zu den Gipfelwerken des 19. Jahrhunderts. Wir haben uns freilich daran gewöhnt, sie auf modernem Instrumentarium musiziert zu hören, dessen Klang nicht den Intentionen ihres Schöpfers entspricht. Bruckner schrieb für Streichinstrumente mit Darmsaiten, die sowohl weicher klingen als auch mischfähiger sind, und ab 1868 dezidiert für Wiener Holz- und Blechblasinstrumente, deren Farben andere waren, als wir sie von den heute üblichen Instrumenten kennen. Das Ergebnis ist ein völlig anderer Gesamtklang, der Bruckners Musik in einem neuen Licht erscheinen lässt. Zum weltweit ersten Mal werden nun im Rahmen des Internationalen Brucknerfestes Linz 2024 alle elf Sinfonien Bruckners im Originalklang zur Aufführung kommen, eine Entdeckungsreise in elf Konzerten, die als Zyklus nur im Brucknerhaus Linz und dort exklusiv in Österreich zu hören sind. Die Sinfonien erklingen dabei stets in ihrer Erstfassung und damit in der Gestalt, die Bruckner dem jeweiligen Werk, noch unbeeindruckt von den Reaktionen seiner Mitwelt, ursprünglich zu geben beabsichtigte. Kombiniert sind sie mit Kompositionen, die ihre Entstehung einem ähnlichen Impuls verdanken oder für Bruckner von vorbildhafter Bedeutung waren, gespielt werden sie von elf der renommiertesten Originalklangorchester Europas unter der Leitung namhafter Dirigenten. Ein einzigartiges Hörerlebnis, das im Bruckner-Jahr 2024 allein die Bruckner-Stadt Linz zu bieten hat.

Today, Anton Bruckner's symphonies are indisputably among the pinnacle works of the 19th century. Of course, we have got used to hearing them played on modern instruments whose sound does not correspond to their creator's intentions. Bruckner wrote for bowed instruments with gut strings, which both sound softer and are more mixable, and from 1868 dedicated to Viennese woodwind and brass instruments, whose colors were different from those we know from today's instruments. The result is a completely different overall sound that casts Bruckner's music in a new light. For the first time worldwide, all eleven of Bruckner's symphonies will be performed in the original sound as part of the International Bruckner Festival Linz 2024, a journey of discovery in eleven concerts, which can only be heard as a cycle in the Brucknerhaus Linz and there exclusively in Austria. The symphonies always sound in their first version and thus in the form that Bruckner originally intended to give the respective work, still unimpressed by the reactions of those around him. They are combined with compositions that owe their creation to a similar impulse or were of exemplary importance for Bruckner.
