Bassist René Pape is one of the best contemporary performers of the role of Boris Godunov, a tsar whose torment for power, but who is also terrified. This time, Pape will play him in the opening broadcast of the new and long-awaited Season Met: Live in HD 2021-2022. Mussorgsky's masterpiece, which is one of the pillars of Russia's operatic repertoire, will be directed by Sebastian Weigle in its original version of 1869.
